Green onions are young shoots of bulb onions and are known for their mild flavor. Green onions are long and slender in appearance with green stalks and small, not fully developed white bulb ends.
Choose green onions with crisp, bright green tops and a firm white base.
Most green onions come in bunches that are banded together. Remove the rubber bands and/or any damaged leaves, wrap in a plastic bag and store in a vegetable crisper for up to 5 days. Be sure to separate from any odor sensitive foods such as corn and mushrooms which will absorb the odor.
Rinse thoroughly in cold water.
